February 2012 Block of the Month

February's Block of the Month is once again a 12.5" square to finish at 12".  This block is a simple yet bold block named Spool, and an example can be found in the book

.  

For our purposes, the background should be a dark gray, black, navy or other fabric that reads as such, and a solid white fabric used for the thin strips.   Good choices for the center square (thread) fabric include large-scale modern fabrics, graphic prints, or tone-on-tone textured type fabrics.
